How can I book a vehicle ?

Booking a car or bike at HeraklionairportRentacar is very easy.

Please note that if you need a car at a very short time we may need to check the availability first.

What do I need for booking?

  • A valid credit card

I do not have a credit card. Is it possible to rent a vehicle ?

In general, you must have a credit card to rent a car. If you do not have a credit card, please contact us to offer you a solution.

Can I pay for my rental using cash ?

Yes, you can pay for your vehicle hire using cash upon delivery. However, you must present a credit card at pick-up because it is required to cover the insurance excess as in the Vehicle Rental Agreement. If you have only a debit card you can hire a vehicle but you will need to reduce your insurance liability.

Can the person who made the reservation be different from the one who will drive the vehicle ?

No. The person paying for the vehicle must be a named driver on the contract and must be present in the local office when the vehicle is collected. However, each person who intends to drive the vehicle, must submit a valid driver’s license on the day the vehicle will be picked up.

Do I need to prepay for my reservation ?

Yes, you will prepay at the time of reservation, when you book online. Remember that although your deposit has been paid, the main driver will still be required to have a credit card in their name on collection in order to pick up the vehicle.

Can I pay with the credit card of a person who is not present upon the vehicle pick up ?

No. The person paying for the vehicle must be a named driver on the contract and must be present in the local office when the vehicle is collected.

Can I rent a vehicle without a reservation ?

Yes but only after consultation with our airport office either by phone or email and as long as a vehicle is available in the station. In any case we recommend making a reservation in advance because no vehicle may be available during busy periods.

I forgot my driver’s license. Can I still rent a vehicle as long as I have a booking ?

No. If you do not show a valid original driver’s license at the pick-up time you cannot rent any vehicle. Please make sure that you do not forget your personal documents to avoid these issues.

Do I have to leave a security deposit ?

If your booking has insurance with an excess, we will preauthorize the excess amount on your credit card (debit card not accepted for this transaction) as a guarantee. If you prefer not to leave a deposit, you can get additional insurance coverage on collection of the vehicle.

How Do I know if my booking is confirmed ?

You will receive a confirmation e-mail.

Can I choose the model of the vehicle ?

Reservations are confirmed for a group and not a particular model or color. The vehicle shown is for guidance only and may be substituted with an alternative, similar or upgraded vehicle.

I don’t know my flight number. What can I do ?

If you don’t know your flight number, you can put TBA instead of a flight number and your valid mobile phone number. Please note these data are especially important if you arrive late at night.

What can happen if I arrive later than my pick-up time ?

Please make sure to contact the concerned station if you are going to arrive later than the specified pick-up time. Failure to that will cause the reservation cancellation half an hour after the scheduled pick-up time. The vehicle may also not be available anymore at the pick-up time and the rental company will not have any responsibility or obligation to deliver a vehicle and there will be no refund of the amount paid.

Can the vehicle be delivered to my home or hotel ?

We do not offer home and private address delivery service.

Regarding hotels we operate a delivery and pick-up service upon agreement with us by phone or email. These services and fees vary in accordance with the region and the rental period.

Where do I get the vehicle at the airport ?

You will find the information for your collect in the confirmation email sent to you after booking. You can also find our location information in google maps.

What are the procedures for a vehicle pick up ?

You will present your driver’s license, passport and your credit card. You will sign the Rental Agreement and once completed, you will pay the sum determined by the booking.

Payment does not apply to fully prepaid bookings.

The vehicle will be inspected for existing scratches or other damages together with the customer and you will make photos for your own evidence. The rental vehicle can be used as soon as the inspection will be completed.

Can I collect a vehicle out of office working hours ?

Out of hours collections are possible and on request. Please note that there is a charge supplement for this service. You’ll find all the information on your rental voucher.

Are there additional charges for returning a vehicle later than scheduled ?

An unauthorized late return is subject to a surcharge. It is mandatory that you must contact us if you wish to prolong your rental. Rental extensions are subject to availability and we cannot always guarantee confirmation of the extension. If we approve the extension, the rental will be charged at the rate that may be higher than the original booking rate.

If I return the rental vehicle earlier will I get a refund ?

Please notice, should you decide to return the vehicle prior to the expiry rental date and hour, we do not refund the amount paid.

Can I take a Rental vehicle off-road ?

It is forbidden to operate a rented vehicle (including 4WD vehicles) off-road, on any beach or driven on bush tracks. If this restriction is violated by a driver, any damages caused on a rental vehicle will be surcharged on account of a driver, as well as any repair costs.

What should I do if I damage the vehicle ?

In the event of an accident during the rental period, the driver will be required to pay the compensation for the damages up to the excess amount, as per rental agreement and insurance policy. Please read carefully our Rental terms and conditions regarding Insurance policy.

How can I change the insurance coverage I have already selected on my booking ?

You can contact us by phone or email and we will help you select the appropriate insurance option. You can also upgrade it at the vehicle pick-up time.

Can I take the rental vehicle from Crete to another island ?

Use of ferry is not allowed without permission. The customers must inform the local office if they intend to take a vehicle out of the island. Failure to this is considered as negligence and the renter must pay a penalty of 300.00 EUR.

Please note that damages while ferrying the vehicle are not covered by any insurance and the customer is responsible for the full cost of the repair.

A vehicle breakdown! What should I do ?

In case of a breakdown please call our Road Assistance number remarked in your rental agreement. You will need to provide your vehicle plate number and directions to help us locate you.

Please note that the Road Assistance is FREE for MECHANICAL breakdowns only. All other calls will be subject to the charges, e.g. lost or locked keys in the vehicle, running out of fuel, refilling the vehicle with incorrect fuel (i.e. putting diesel instead of petrol), damage to wheels and tires, a flat battery due to the ignition or lights being left on, or a breakdown as a result of damage caused in an accident, including salvage etc.

I received a fine ticket for parking or other traffic violations.

If you receive a notice of illegal parking or other violation, you MUST complete the payment of the fine to the jurisdictional police or closest post office.

Upon returning the vehicle, please submit the traffic violation ticket with the fine payment receipt and give it to our staff.

What do I need for a vehicle drop-off ?

Once finished vehicle rental in accordance with the rental agreement, you will come to the rental station as determined in your rental document and our employee will inspect the vehicle. You will need to submit the photos that you made during the vehicle pick up time to compare with the current vehicle condition.

Please note: You are kindly required to make sure that you have not left any of your personal stuff inside the vehicle. We are not responsible for any forgotten items or lost property.
